Make some oobleck with cornstarch and water. You can find cornstarch at the dollar store. Add 2 parts of cornstarch to 1 part water. Ex. 1/2 cup of water and a cup of cornstarch. Mix them together in a bowl. You can add food coloring if you want. Once you have mixed it then grab it with your fist and discover what happens. Let the material leave your hands and discover what happens. Will objects float on the material? What is the material? Is it a solid or a liquid? Have fun.

Put a tablespoon of water in various containers. Try to find 5 or more different containers. Rank them in order of which container will evaporate first, second, etc. Then check the containers every few hours to see what happens. Draw the shape of each container at the end of the experiment along with the results.

March 30th-April 3rd

1. Mix water and salt in a glass and let the water evaporate. What forms when the water evaporates? Physical or chemical change?

2. Cleaning pennies activity. For the following activities let the pennies soak for a couple of hours, scrub them, and then rinse them. Use the materials you have in your house so you don't have to buy them. Soak pennies in dish soap and water. Soak pennies in ketchup. Soak pennies in vinegar and salt. Soak pennies in lemon juice and salt. Soak pennies in Tabasco sauce. Soak pennies in Coca-Cola. Physical or chemical change?

3. Help your parents prepare dinner. Write down what you made for dinner and explain whether it is physical or chemical change for each item you made.

April 6th-9th

1. Make some type of ramp so an object can go down the ramp. Object could be a marble, toy car, etc. which angle works best? What happens when the ramp becomes too steep? Draw a picture of this activity. Label the potential and kinetic energy. On your drawing make sure you label when the potential energy is the greatest and the kinetic energy is the greatest.

2. Look around your house and provide an example of chemical, electromagnetic, electrical, and thermal energy.

3. Blow up a balloon, rub it on your head, and then stick it to the wall. It should stick to the wall. Then pop the balloon. List all the science terms associated with this activity.

4. Look around your house and list a few items that are an element and a few items that are a compound.

Thursday-Read pages 91-95 and then answer questions on page 95.

Monday-Finish the last day of the block schedule.

Tuesday-Pass out a new book; Earth's Changing Surface.Read pages 6-10 and complete a worksheet.

Wednesday-Briefly discuss pages 12-25. Read pages 26-30 and begin making a contour map of the middle school property.

Thursday-Finish contour map of the middle school property.

Friday-Quiz over Chapter 1.

May 16th-20th

Monday-Read pages 38-45. Complete questions on the top of page 44. Complete worksheet.

Tuesday-Field Trip.. Bring a lunch that you can throw away when you are finished.

Wednesday-Read pages 48-54 and complete a worksheet. 

Thursday-Read pages 56-59 and answer the questions on page 59.

Friday-Lab zone page 55.

May 23rd-27th

Monday-Page 61 #s 1-10, page 62 #'s 21, 22, 23, and 24. Concept Ladder worksheet.

Tuesday-Test over Chapter 2.

Wednesday-Read pages 66-81 and complete a worksheet.

Thursday-Finish work from yesterday.

Friday-Read pages 86-95 and complete a worksheet. 

May 31st-June 3rd.....Egg Drop project is due June 2nd.

Monday-No School. Memorial Day.

Tuesday-Read pages 96-103 and complete worksheet.

Wednesday-Review for quiz and take a quiz over Chapter 3.

Thursday-Part 2 of Quiz which will be outside examining erosion. Egg drop project is due
