Hi my name is Scott Garrett.  I have been a teacher at Southeast Schools for 36.  7th GradeWorld History will begin with chapter 8 Ancient Greece and we will finish with chapter 21 The Renaissance.  If you need to get hold of me please e-mail me at [email protected].

Friday 9/7/18
Students completed the SLO test for World History.  The first one does not count for a grade.  Yhis test is used as a base line to check how much knowledge students have, so we can measure growth. 
Thursday 9/6/2018
Students learned about the first two civilizations in ancient Greece the Minoans and the Myceaneans.  The class created a Venn diagram in order to compare the two civiliztions.  The class also recieved section one vocabulary builder.  Vocabulary builders are great study guides for the first quiz. 
Wednesday 9/5
Students recieved information on B.C. and A.D.  Next the class did a quick write in their journals about the geography of Ancient Greece and how the geography effected their lives.  The class recieved a handout over section one chapter 8 and an entrance question from that section.  The entrance question is worth 8 points abd students get to choose the grade they want to work fo, a C , B or an A 
Tuesday 9/4
Students finished their worsheet on the five themes of Geography.  Next students took a 8 question pre-test over Ancient Greece

Students took a 17 question quiz over the oceans and continents

Periods- 5,6,8 Students will take an 8 question post test over Ancient Greece followed by housekeeping.
Periods 1,2,4 Students completed the chapter review followed by a quick write.  Next the students copied down standard #16.  The students also received packets over section one of the Greek World and an entrance question for them to complete

Periods 5,6,8 Students completed the chapter review and quick write. Next they wrote down standard #16 and the compelling question about the enemy of my enemy is my friend and that relates to this section.  Next the class received Greek WOrld section one packet and an entrance question. After the entrance question they were to highlight two fact under each heading.

Periods 1,2,4 students received their section two handout on governments in Athens. Students will highlight the main facts found in the handout and use that information to complete their section two vocabulary builder.
Periods 5,6,8 Students will review their section two vocabulary builder.  Next students will complete a Venn Diagram on Direct and Representative Democracies.  Students will answer three reading check questions on the back of the Venn Diagram and cite where they found the answers in their handouts. 
9/28/16 Wednesday
Periods 1,2,4 Students will be shown a journal that received a 5/5 score so they can see what I am looking for in a journal entry.  Next students will answer the two E.Q. over standard 13.
Periods 5,6,8 Students received their section two handouts, Government in Athens.  Students are to highlight the main fact in their handouts and complete section 2 vocabulary builder.  
9/27/16 Tuesday
Periods 1,2,4 Will complete house keeping and turn in their journals.
Periods 5,6,8 I will project a 5/5 journal on the screen and I will show what I am looking for in a journal.  Next students will answer the two E.Q. over standard 13 and put their papers in the tray

Periods 1,2,4 Finish the film on Troy reviewed their fact sheet and then they took a quiz over Troy

Periods 1,2,4 will finish watching the film on Troy.  After the film we will review for the quiz on Monday.  Journals will also be collected Monday.

Periods 1,2,4 Students will learn about the equinox and the begining of fall.  Students will take a quiz over the Trojan War on Monday and journals will be collected on Monday.  Students will watch part two of the Trojan War.
Periods 5,6,8 Students will learn about the equinox this will be a bonus question on their quiz tomorrow.  Students will finish watching the film on the Trojan War.  After the film we will review fro the quiz.  Students will take a quiz over Troy tomorrow and their Journals will be collected tomorrow.

Periods 1,2,4 Students will be given time to finish their questions about the Trojan Horse.  Next students will watch part two of the film and fill out their fact sheet about the war.  Quiz on Monday over the Trojan War

Periods 1,2,4 Students will receive a handout on the Trojan War which will go with a film we will see on the war.  We will have a quiz over the Trojan War on Friday.  Students will watch a 15 minute clip today and then they will receive a story about the Trojan War in which they will answer three questions in a writing format.  Students must cite evidence from the story where they found their information.
Periods 5,6,8 Students will be given time to finish their writings about the Trojan Horse.  Today we will watch part two of the Trojan War and we will fill in the handout.  We will take a quiz over the Trojan War in Thursday.
9/19/16 Monday
Periods 1,2,4 Took the Section One Ancient Greek Quiz.  After the quiz we talked about he importance of community service and giving back.
Periods 5,6,8  Today the class will begin learning about the Trojan War.  TRhe class will receive assignment number 11 which is a cast list and a series of questions dealing with the Trojan War.  Today we will watch a 15 minute clip on the Trojan War.  After the film clip I will pass out a story about the Trojan Horse which has three writing questions on the back.  The first question is a short answer worth two points the next two are extended response questions worth four points.  Students are to cite evidence from the text by highlighting the section where they found their answer.

Periods 1,2,4 The class will review the Venn diagram and next they will work on a handout that goes over Greek city states and colonization.  Quiz over section one on Monday.

Periods 1,2,4 will review what E Plurbus Unum and A.D. stand for.  Next the class will be assigned the Assessment questions on page 233.  Each row someone will go to the board and type in the answer and cite where they found the answer.  Next the class will receive a Venn diagram  where they will compare the Minoans to the Mycenaeans.
Periods 5,6,8 The class will review the Venn Diagram.  Next we will receive a Geography handout on city states and colonization. Quiz tomorrow I will tell the kids what they should do to prepare for the quiz

Periods 1,2,4 Today the classes will have an assembly going over the procedure for the Alice drill.  Today classes will also be called down for Pictures
Periods 6,7,8 The class was introduced to E Plurbus Unum which is a Latin phrase which means out of many, one.  I explained to the class that in this country we all came from somewhere else, that America is truly a country of immigrants next we discussed the meaning of A.D. and B.C. along with  C.E. and B.C.E.  next the class was given an assignment to complete the assessment questions on page 233.  Someone from each row will type in the answer where they will restate their answer and cite where they got there information from.

Periods 5,6,8 Will take a Ancient Greece Pre Test assignment number 4.  Next the class will complete a quick write in their journal.  Students will receive a handout of section one Ancient Greece( assignment #4)  Each row will be assigned a section in which they will highlight at least 2 facts from each section.
Periods 1,2,4  Students will take the written portion of the SLO.  Today will be the students first day taking notes in their journals.  Next the class wwill finish discussing the 5 factors of Geography.  All students should be familar with the 5 factors.

  • Periods 5,6,8 will finish going over the 5 factors of geography.  Next the class will recieve the handout over section one of Ancient Greece and they will highlight the main facts in the section.

  • Periods 1,2,4,5,6,8.  We will review the 5 factors of Geography.  I will introduce the class to the first standard they need to learn.  Next we will review the world map.  The class will have their first grade as a class today, they will take a quiz over the map of the world.  The quiz is a basic review of the continents and oceans along with main latitude and longitude markings. 
9/1/16 Thursday
  • Periods 1,2,4.  Students will receive a map of the world which we will label together, students will have a quiz over this map on Friday.  Students will also get a handout covering the 5 factors of geography.  These are there first two assignments.
  • Periods 5,6,8 will take their S.L.O Pre= test based on the standards for 7 th grade, this will not count as a grade. 
8/31/16 Wednesday
  • Periods 1,3,4.  We will cover the layout of the class.  Each student will get an assignment sheet and a weekly graph to keep track of their grades .  Next I will go over with the class how to access the textbook on line.
  • Periods 5,6, and 8.  Students will receive a world map which we will label together.  This will be the subject of their first quiz Friday.  Next the class will get a handout of the 5 steps of geography.  Students should know the 5 factors of geography these will be assignment 1 and 2.
2/17/16 Wednesday 
 
  • Periods first,second,fourth and fifth; Housekeeping, up graded their assignment sheets and graphed their current grades.
  • Next we briefly used the recent death to a member of the Supreme Court to illustrate how the check and balance system works in the United States
  • Next the class wrote in their journals answering four questions from the section review and then they wrote for two minutes as part of their quick write 
  • My afternoon classes also discussed the opening in the supreme court. 
  • Next the class received the section three handout along with the section three vocabulary builder, and a Punic War worksheet.
  • I divided the class into four sections each section had a different task to perform.  Group one was to highlight the section three handout, group two was the complete the vocabulary builder, group three was to answer the assessment questions on page 313.  Group four was to complete the questions on the Punic War handout.  Each student has a part they are responsible for completing.  Tomorrow each group will present their work.

My morning classes took section 1 chapter 8 quiz today.  My afternoon class began work on a handout titled Greek city-states and colonization. The afternoon classes also started to learn about the Trojan War.

We watch a film clip titled I am an American.  Students were to write down the Latin Phrase E Plurbus Unum which means out of many, one.  We also went over what A.D. stands for.  My afternoon classes took section one quiz today

The class finished the assessment questions over chapter 8 and we reviewed for the chapter 8 quiz. 
9/11/15 Friday
We finished highlighting chapter 8 sec 1 two facts per section.  Next we stated to answer the assessment questions  at the end of chapter 8 section one.  At the end of the period students were given an exit question where they were to write down the five themes of geography for 5 points.
9/10/15 Thursday
Reviewed sec 1 vocabulary builder.  Next we reviewed the 5 themes of geography. I introduced standard #13 and we broke the standard down into easy to understand sections and how the standard relates to Greece .
9/9/15 Wednesday
Periods 1,2,4,5 Read Section one from chapter 8 and highlight two important facts from each section. 
Periods 6 and 8 will review the five themes of Geography.  Students will be assigned one question from the assessment questions at the end of chapter 8 sec 1.  After completing the question one student from each row will type the answer on the computer so the rest of the class can copy the answer down. 
9/8/15 Tuesday
Periods 1,2,4,5, finished the written portion of their SLO pretest today.  Students reviewed the 5 themes of Geography.  I will use this material as an exit question this Friday.  We also started entering journal data.  Journals will be collected every three weeks and should contain entries on what we did in class each day.
Periods 6 and 8.  Students will read section one over Ancient Greece and practice pulling out the two most important facts from each subheading. Next the class will receive a Vocabulary builder over section one.  Students will answer each question and include the page and paragraph number where they found the answer.  Students will update their assignment sheets before leaving the classroom.

Students followed their odd classes today.  So I had students in 1, 3, and 5 classes.   Students will watch a film clip called " The Man Who hated Rome".  Students will come up with three supporting pieces of evidence from the film which supports the statement Hannibal was one of the greatest general in the Ancient World" The class took the exit question at the end of the period worth 3 points.

Students are working on section three on the Roman Republic.  Students were given new exit questions.   Students will have the exit questions on Thursday.  The class finished going over the three Crises that threatened to destroy Rome.  Next students put the answers to section three vocabulary builder on the board.

Students took a 19 point quiz over section four Greek Achievements.  Thursday journals will be collected and students will take a test over the Greek World ( they should look at quizzes one through four in the Greek World)  
12/12/14 Friday
The class reviewed what was going to be on the quiz Monday.  The class received a vocabulary builder where they had five questions and had to state which ones were true and which ones were false.  Next each student had to place the correct answer on the paper and include the page and paragraph number were they found the answer. 
12/11/14 Thursday
Students will finishing putting their facts up an the board.  The class watched two short videos, one on the Archimedes screw and the other on the Hippocratic Oath. 
12/10/14 Wednesday
Each student received a section 4 handout on Greek achievements. We will have a quiz Monday over Greek achievements.  Every table was given the task of finding two to three facts relating to Greek Achievements.  At the end of the period each table would have someone write their heading on the board and then type in their two to three facts.
 
12/9/14 Tuesday
Students put up the answers to the questions about Thucydides.  The final question ask students to recall an event in which they had first hand knowledge of.  Students told the class the story as a primary source just sticking to the facts.
12/8/14 Monday
Students received a handout on Thucydides.  There was an article they had to read and answer questions about.  Students needed to understand that Thucydides was the first historian to use realism in his writing.

The class will take a quiz over section three.  After the quiz the class will watch a film clip about the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

Students will recap the important facts of the video.  Next the class will receive a graphic organizer which they will use to record information about the three Hellenistic Kingdoms that were formed after the death of Alexander.  Next the class will fill out a vocabulary builder over section three.  Friday the class will take a quiz over section three.

Students will finish the worksheet on Alexander's Empire and the correct answers will be put up on the board.  The class will learn how to use symbols on a map and record those symbols on the maps legend.  Next the class will watch a clip on Alexander crossing the Indus River.

The class review what we did yesterday and they were reminded that their journals will be collected on Dec. 18.  The class finished the section assessment questions.  Each table set a person to type the answer to their question on the board.  After the completion of the assessment question, students began work on a geography worksheet called Alexander's Empire

Students answered 5 section review questions about Sparta and Athens.  Next the class was given a prompt about being in Alexander the Greats army.  The class was then given their new handouts over section three on Alexander the Great.  The class was to begin answering the section three assessment questions in the back.

I gave the class five minutes to review their gods and Goddess's using their flash cards.  Next we read a story about King Midas and what is Midas's golden touch and how business's use that image to help their companies.  At the end of the period I passed out Flash Cards.  Half of the cards only had the name of the god and the other half only had the definitions wrote on them but no names.  Using a time the class tried to perform a human version of scatter cards and see how fast they could match the cards.

We began the period by finishing our conversation about Aesop's Fables and the life lesson behind The Milk Maid and her Pail. Next the class worked on a 5 question vocabulary builder.  At the end of the period we put the answers on the board and went over each question.  Sappho's was not used so I instructed the kids to write down that she was the most famous Greek Lyric Poet.

Today the class will finish reviewing their flash cards.  We will visit garrett'sworldofhistorywordpress.com. and review using both the flash cards and the scatter card game. The class will receive their new handouts over section three from the text book. Next I will show them a website that contains lots of Aesop's Fables.  I will play for them the Aesop Fable called "The Milkmaid and the Pail".  The class will end the day with an exit question, What is the study of Greek Gods and Goddess's called?

At the beginning of the period I will remind the class that next Thursday their journals will be collected.  We will finishing making flash cards for the last three Gods and Goddess's.  Next I will give students 5 minutes to review their cards. Then the first student in each row will sit on top of their desk and quiz each student in their row using a flash card, then the next student in the the row will do the same until each student int he row has had a chance to quiz their row using the flash cards.  At the end of the period I will remind the class of the definition of Mythology.

At the beginning of the period I reviewed with he class the definition  of Mythology and the third Kingdom ruled by the Olympians. I explained to the class that Mythology was not a strict historical lesson but rather a collection of great stories which provides us with adventures and entertainment. To drive home this point I showered a 15 minute clip of Clash of the Titans.  Next we continued making flash cards, tomorrow we have three more cards to make to finish the 17 Gods and Goddess's.

I had the class recall the story of how Zeus was able to overthrow  Cronus and begin the third kingdom called the Olympians. Next I passed out 17 note cards on which students are going to create flash cards for the 17 gods and goddess's that will be on the next quiz.  We watch a film clip on Greek Mythology and completed 8 cards.  At the end of the period I reminded the class that the study of Greek gods and Goddess's is called Mythology ( this will be an exit question on Friday )

We will begin our studies of Greek Mythology.  The class will first answer three question in their journals that are a review over section 2.  As a group will will go over all three questions, every student should be able to answer all three questions.  Next the class will write in their journals for three minutes.  I call this our quick write.  The class in given a historical prompt and they write about the topic for three minutes and then we discuss their responses. At the end of the period the class received a handout on Greek Mythology.  I told the class the story of how Zeus over threw his father to rescue his siblings and to start tghe new Kingdom called the Olympians.

Today we finished the survivor game and all students came up with 6 to 8 main facts from their reading.  Next, the class received a vocabulary builder that covers section 2 .  We will have a quiz Friday that will cover the forms of government in ancient Greece.

At the beginning of the period the class will graph their grades by entering their last four grades.  Next the class received a handout on section two Government in Athens.  Our next quiz should be either Wednesday or Thursday over the different forms of government.  Today in class I had each student read page 236 from our handout.  The students had to identify six major facts from their reading.  Next all the students from each row came together and voted on their top 6 facts.  The last stage, students will pick which facts will stay and which will be eliminated.

Students will finish working on reading notes 25.  Most classes finished sections one and two and we will finish sections 3 through 5 today.  Afterwards we will compare what we have learned to standard 13 and relate which geographical features helped Ancient Greeks to promote the movement of goods and ideas and which feature impeded the movement.  Next I will show the class how to access my website on garrett'sworldofhistory.wordpress.com.

At the beginning of the period we reviewed the 5 themes of geography.  Next we talked about why we study the Ancient Greeks.  I showed the class how a lot of our words have Greek root words, ex geography is broke down ge= earth and graphy = writing about.  At the end of the period I gave students an exit question Name three of the themes of Geography, they had to put their answer in a complete sentence the exit question was worth 3 points

First day of school.  My focus was to make students feel comfortable and give them an understanding of the scope of seventh grade World History.  Each student was given a score sheet to track their grades both by assignment and by each week. Students will update the score sheet each Friday and will always be aware of their grade.  All students were informed that they will need a binder and notebook for their World History class.  All papers will be kept in their binder which will stay in class. The notebook will be used to keep a daily journal that will be collected every three weeks.

Students reviewed the map in two sections, 1-20 and 21-35.  Any student who can answer all 35 questions orally will get a 100% on the test without having to take the test.  We will go over the map again tomorrow and the test is Thursday.  Have your son/daughter take a practice test at home and retake the ones they missed until you are happy with the grade.  This test will go on the third nine weeks grading period.

Students will place the answers to assessment 32 on the board.  Next the class will receive Section one vocabulary builder from The Roman Republic.  Each group will place a t for true or f for false on the line, if the answer is false they must correct the statement.  Each question must have the page and paragraph number where they found the answer from

The class received a handout called Geography challenge.  Each table was given a card with a question on it, they are to restate the question in their answer and complete the question within 5 min. and then they rotate their card to the next table.

Students will learn about the history behind Thanksgiving and read an information text about Thucydides and answer two multiple choice questions, one short answer and one extended response all answers are in the text.  Happy Thanksgiving!!

The class will take the quiz over section 2 of chapter 9.  After the quiz the class will graph in the result in both their bar graph and weekly line graph.  Students will know what their grade in history is on a weekly basis.

The class watch a short film clip about the life of JFK.  Next the class received a handout from section 2 chapter 9.  Each table was given one of the assessment questions in which one person is to read the question while another person is to read the paragraph where the answer came from. Each table will write the answers down when the other groups type them up. Quiz over ch 9 sec two on Monday.  Students should visit the flash cards on my Blog, they should look over their reading notes and assessment questions. The quiz will be about Athens and Sparta and the PeloponnesianWar.

Students worked on lap tops and I pads to use virtual flash cards that have been loaded with all the questions on the up coming quiz.  At the end of the period students completed an exit question where they had to answer the following question by restating the question first " Name the two most important city-states in Ancient Greece.

The class watched a short film clip about the military upbringing of Spartan boys .  Next the class worked on reading notes 27 dealing with four areas of Spartan life.

The class worked in groups on reading notes 27 looking at four areas dealing with Athens. Students will have a quiz over chapter 9 on Monday for afternoon classes and Tuesday for my morning classes.

The class looked at the bell ringer that reviewed the facts from section one.  They had to place five facts in the order in which they happened.  Next they completed a quick write.  They were told that their father wanted to settle down and the family had to decide between two cities one that valued strength and discipline, rules and the other valued creativity and intellectual activities. After the quick write the class received chapter 27 reading notes.

The class took a 23 question quiz over section one in the Greek world.  After the quiz, the class imputed their exit question score and quiz score on the bar graph and they also graphed their weekly grade in World History on their line graph.  Every student should their grade  in world history at the end of every week.

Students did a quick write.  They wrote from the view point of a newspaper writer from either Persia or Athens.  Next the class worked on a vocabulary builder which will help them on their quiz tomorrow.

Students learned about the battle of Thermopylae (the 300 ) in class today.  We orange a paper ball battle to show how a few Spartans were able to hold off  a much larger group of Persians.  We will have a 23 point quiz this Friday over section one Greek World

Our band and choir put on a very nice program to honor our veterans  today.  In class we did some enrichment exercises with the students who were not in band or choir.

The class received a battle chart covering four major battle in the Greek and Persian War.   Today the class covered the battle of Marathon.  Students will have a quiz over section one chapter 9 either Wednesday or Thursday.

The different jigsaw groups will go back to their table and each member will take turns giving a summation of what they read .  At the end of the period the class had an exit question " Name the Empire who invaded Greece in 490 B.C.

Students will get back their test over Ancient Greece.  They will graph their final grade in class we will go over their learning sheets with each student to see if they reached their goal for the first nine weeks.

Students were show how to access the schools web site to reach my web page so they could access their journal information any time they fall behind.  Next we started something called jigsaw.  Each student was given a main heading from sec one and they are to read the section and write three to five facts about their section.  Each student was given either  a 1, 2  or 3.  The number tells them which section they had to read.  After completing their note finding, all ones will get together as well as twos and threes to discuss the answers they got.

Students will take a pre-test over the Greek world.  This test does not count as a grade but is used to see where students are as far as prior knowledge is concerned.  Next the class will receive a new bar graph to keep track each grade in the class and in addition to that they will construct a line graph will will keep track of their personnel percentage they have in this class on a weekly bases.

Today I showed the class how the rick  lost power because they ignored the poor and we choose a class tyrant who allog with their followers picked our next song.  The Tyrant lost support amoung the people and was overthrown by their followers and a democracy developed so we voted on our next two songs.  next the class designed a pictowors for each of the four types of government and creates a time line using the four types of government.

Today we learned that the rick astocrats overthrew the Monarchy and I allowed people with ipods and earbuds to listen to music while they worked to show and the rich ignored the poor.

Today I made the point that a Monarch got their power from god and therefor did not have to listen to the people therefor our Monarch picked the music they wanted to listen to and the rest of the class had no say.  I had our Monarch walked back to their desk and fall down dead and I showed that the Prince became the next Monarch  and he picked the next song as we went over questions from 26.2

Today the class went over the vocabulary builder and short answer response from Thursday.  Next the class drew a number from 1 -50 the two closest became our Monarchs and got to pick the music the class would listen to while we answered the questions from 26.2.

The class read the first column called rule by a few and picked three facts that went with the title.  Next I projected the reding page onto the board and I had students come up and underline their important fact.  This exercise is designed to get students to be able to pick important information from text.  Next the class worked on vocabulary builder from section two

Periods 5,6,8 finished writng their extended response questions.  I had different students go to the computer and write a diiferent part to the answer. Periods 1,3,4 talked about how to go about answering an extended respose question.  The class started to answer an extended response question directed at standard #13

Students worked on their writng skills today.  I informed people that if they recieved a D or F on the quiz they need to come to my room on Friday to retake the quiz.  Today we work on writing extended response questions.
 Wednesday 9/11/13Students will take a 13 question quiz over sec 1 chapter 8.  After the quiz the class will exchange papers and the quiz will be graded in class for immediate feedback. Afer recieving thier quiz back students will graph the reults in their learing goal sheet.  If time allows we will watch a short clip on the rise of Greek democracy and we will write an extended reponse on the topic of Greek democracy and how it compares to ours, we will also write an extended response about standard #13.

Students will review what will be on their quiz tomorrow. We went over E-Plurbus Unum( out of many one), we also went over what AD stood for Anno Domini In the year of the Lord.  We discussed what the Agora was and how the Agora was used in Ancient Greece.  Students were told to take binders home and review assignments 2-4 and look over their journal notes.

Students finished their group work from pg 233 q.1-3.  Next the group worked on completing and extended responce question.  Question number 4 was answered in a group effort.  I wanted to take this step by step so students understand what I want from an extended responce question.  At the end of the period students started to work on assignment #3 Greek city states and Colonization worksheet.  This worksheet contains 4 of the 5 themes of geography.  This worksheet will be completed in class tomorrow.

Students worked in small groups answering question s 1-4 from pg 233.  Each person in the group has a job to perform.  One student typs the answer on the computer, another student reads the questio, another student reads the paragraph the answer came from, and the last student reads the answer.  Answers must be typed in a restated format.  This assignment will be finished in class tomorrow.

Students will review what we did in class yesterday and write this down in their journal.  I will show them what a journal entry should look like.  Next the class will graph their pre-test score onto their goal setting sheet.  Next the class will be given their access code to the on line textbook and I will go over how to get on to the site. I will call on several students to use their code to access the textbook in class. In enough time remains I will pass out the first two pages from sec. 1 chapter 8 and the class will discuss greek prefixes and how knowing the prefix can give you a strong clue on what a word means.

My first three period( 1, 3,4,) recieved their assignment sheet and goal setting sheet.  I went over witht he class that they are to have a binder to keep their papers in and a notebook that a day by day journal will be kept.  My 5th, 6th and eight periods took a greek pre-test in class.  The test will not count as a grade but will be used by my to see what prior knowledge students are bringing to the class in regards to ancient Greece.  The test was graded in class and the same test will be givin at the end of chapter 8 on Ancient Greece.

Tomorrow the class finished question #3 from church and town of the High Middle Ages.  Next the class will watch a short film clip over the areas we are going to cover from the High Middle Ages.  Afterwards the class will go over chapter review questions from page 517 and 518

Students were given time to finish the worksheet on towns and church of the high middle ages.  They had three 2 point short answer questions in which they had to circle the main parts of the question and make sure the main parts of the question became part of their answer.  We still need to go over one more question tomorrow.

Students finished watching a clip on the High Middle Ages that included Robin Hood.  After finishing the film clip students recieved a worksheet over the church and town of the high middle ages.  Students were to finished the first 11 matching question that deal with jobs of the high middle ages

Students recieved a reading guide divided into three section. Section one had three literal questions, section 2 had 3 inferrence questions and section 3 had 3 opinion questins.  Students had to read three pages from an infermational text and then answer the questions.  They had to site page and paragraph where they were influenced to choose the answer they did for section two and they must be prepared to explain their opinions from section three

Students wrote down the name of the first five emperors of Rome and we talked about how dangerous it was to be an emperor.  Next the class did an exercise called shared/paired reading where we divide the class into pairs each person reads a section of the text and writes a short answer responce about the reading.  Next one of the partners reads their answer to their partner who either give the answer a thumbs up or helps them correct their answer, this is repeaded as they read another section from the text, the goal is to improve writing skills.

Today the class went over the questions they generated from the film clip on the Ides of March.  I asked other students if they had the answers, if not I tried to answer them.  If I did not have an snswer to one of their questions we googled for the answer.  Next we reviewed the classes predictions on what would happen next and we voted on the ones we though were most likely to occur.  The last thing we did was to watch another 5 minute clip to see the ending of the story, and to see how our predictions turned out
Wednesday 3/6/13
I introduced a new event today "The Ides of March".  I asked the class if anyone of them have heard of the Ides of March before, in some class a few have.  Next I passed out a chart with three columns.  One column asked the students to list fact that they knew, the second column asked them to write any questions they had tha was unanswered by the facts and the third column asked the class to predict how the story would end.  Next i played a five minute animated clip about the Ides of March.  Students where to write down as many facts as they could either from prior knowledge or from the flim clip.  Next I asked the class to write an ending to the story, what would happen next
Tuesday 3/5/13
We picked up where we left off yesterday.  Today each group will read the four facts they got from the reading.  One student was selected to type the facts on the computer and I had them projected onto the white board.  In the end most classes came up with 8 to 10 total facts they found important.  Now this portion of the assingment I call survivor.  The each group was to pick the 4 numbers they though were most important.  Then each group would nominate one fact to be eleminated, if a table had that fact as one of their top 4 they could try and persuade the rest of the class to keep the fact.  We will continue this method until 4 facts are left on the board.  I will use the 4 facts left on the next quiz.
Monday 3/4/13
Students got their test back over the Roman Republic.  The class graphed the sore on to their grade sheet.  Afterwords the class read two pages silently.  While reading they were to check each paragraph they understood, put a question mark by many they did not.  Each student was also to place a star next to 4 statements they though were important.  Next each group was to discuss any paragraphs they did not understand and compare the four facts they found important.  Each table was to come up with a common four facts.
Friday 3/1/13
Students took the Test over the Roman Republic.  The test will be worth 60 points.
Thursday 2/28/13
Students worked in cooperative groups of 2-5 students.  One student will quiz the others over 5 questions from sec one quiz.  Another student will quiz the group over qustions 6-10.  They will continue doing this until they cover both sec one and sec three quizzes.  After completing this students will engage something I call show me what you know. Each student will come to the front of the room and pull a strip of paper from a box.  On the paper will be one of the question directly from the test they will take tomorrow.

Students will learn about Sparctacus and how he led Rome's largest slave revolt.  They will also learn who attacked and defeated Sparctacus. Quiz is now Wednesday.
Monday 2/25/13
Students will finish watching the clip on Hannabal and will then turn in their short answer papers.  Afterwards the class will watch a clip on gladiators.  The quiz will be backed up to Wednesday.
Friday 2/22/13
Students recieved three short answer questions that deal with Hannabal.  The class will watch a film clip on Hannabal and then they will answer the questions making sure they restate the question first.  This assignment will be finished on Monday.
 Thursday 2/21/13
Today we will review the material that was completed on Wednesday.  Each group will have a representative that will stand and present an answer to one of the questions from pg 313 Q, 1-3.  Next each table will answer one of the questions from the sec three practice quiz and also one student will answer a question from the section three vocabulary builder.  Section three quiz will be Tuesday and the test over the Roman REpublic will be Friday.

Students will work in graoups to answer the assessment questions on page 313.  If time permits they will begin working on the vocabulary builder for section three.  Our next quiz will be Friday

Thursday 2/7/13
Today the class will focus on the check and balance system and how the system works in the United States and how it worked in the Roman Republic. We will go over the answers of section two vocabulary builder by projecting the onto the screen. The class will write an extended response question comparing our government to that of the Roman Republic and a short answer question comparing the Roman Laws of the twelve tables to our laws today.  Journals will be collected Friday.  The start date for the Journals is 1/14/12

Students will create a graphic organizer detailing the Tripartite form of government used by the Romans.  Students will compare the Romans tripartite government to the one use in the United States today.  The students will olso work in a small group setting to complete section two vocabulary builder from the Roman Republic. 
Tuesday 2/5/13
We went over the information from assessment 33 by projecting the answers on the screen.  After going over assessment 33 the class took a 16 question quiz over section one over the Roman Republic.  The quiz was graded in class.
Monday 2/4/13
Students work on assessment 33 in small groups.  I called students up to my desk to go over their 2nd nine weeks grade and each student recieved a new graphing sheet for their grades.  Students will turn in their journals on Friday..  the journals will be scored from Jan. 21 to Feb.8.
Monday 12/17/12
Students will place information on the board regarding their diagram on Sparta and Athens.  Students will also begin work on pg 271 q1-3.  Each table was given a question that they were to find the answer for, including the page and paragraph where the answer was found
Friday 12/14/12
Students will take a 16 question Map Quiz over the Mediterranean Area.  After the quuiz the class will work to finish their reading notes by the end of the period.  Journals will be collected next Friday.
Thursday 12/13/12
Students reviewed their maps for the quiz on Friday.  I called one student at a time to locate the items on a map.  Next I showed the class a film clip on growing up Spartian.

Students reviewed the map they filled out yesday to prepare for a quiz on Friday.  Students will have an exit question tomorrow over  " The enemy of my enemy is my Friend".  Students will be able to explain thois concept using the Persian War as their focus.

Students recieved a map over the Mediterranean Area.  Students will take  a map quoiz Friday over the area that are on this map.  The map covers the main area we have been discussing in class

Journals will be collected on 12/21/12.  Students began working on assignment #5 Reading notes 27.  Students will be able to compare the city states of Sparta to Athens.
Friday 12/7/12
Students took a quiz over the Persian Wars.  After the quiz I should the class a film clip about Peral Harbour, "The Day that will live in infamy"
Thursday 12/6/12
Students watched a film clip on the battle of Salamis.  Students also finished there battle chart by inputing the information on the battle of Plataea.  Students should know this was a Spartan led victory and the battle ended the Persian War.  Students will take a quiz over the Persian War tomorrow.

Wednesday 12/5/12
Students worked in groups to fill out a Graphic Organizer over the Persian Empire.  Each table sent a person to the board to record one of their facts.  The information on the organizer should be use as a study aid for the quiz this Friday over the Persian War.  Next the class got out their battle chart over the battle of Salamis.  Students will know that the battle of Salamis is considered the turning point of the Persian war.
Tuesday 12/4/12
Students will know that the battle of Thermopylae allowed the Greeks to have the time they needed to get ready for the Persian invasion.
Monday 12/3/12
Today students learned about the battle of Thermopylae.  Students should have filled in the battle facts on their chart.  Students will have a quiz this Friday over the Persian Wars.
Friday 11/30/12
Students will present their answers over the vocabulary builder on the board.  Next the class will learn about the next Greek Battle the battle of Thermopylae.
Thursday 11/29/12
Students will finish their charts on the battle of Marathon.  Next the class will turn to page 260 and work on a vocabulary builder over section one.  The vocabulary builder is a good study sheet for the first quiz.
Wednesday 11/28/12
Students will create a battle chart in order to record information about the Persian War.  Today we will begin by looking at the battle of Marathon.  Students should know the battle took place on 9/11/490 B.C.  They should also know the Greeks sent a day runner by the name of Pheidippides to ask the Spartians for help.  Pheidippides is the inspiration for the Marathon race today.
Tuesday 11/27/12  Students opened their books to page 265  and naswered questions 1-3 over section one on the Greek World.  Each table was responcible for one question.  Table one will find the answer to 1.a and one person from the table will type the answer on the computer which will project onto the screen.  At the end of the period each student will have the answers to all questions.
Monday 11/26/12-  Students will watch a film clip on The Greek World and they were to write an essay on the accomplishments of a Greek Philosopher.
Thursday-  Students will recieve a folder to be kept in class, an assignment sheet and a Rubric to track their grades.  All student folders will be kept in the classroom.

Friday 9/7/12-  Students will recieve a passwork to use to access the textbook on line.  We will also go over how to get on the teacher websites to pull up classroom assignments.  Students will take a pre-test over Greece.  The pre-test will not count as a grade.
Monday 9/10/12  Today we will finish scoring the Pre-test we took over Ancient Greece.  We will also begin our Journals. Journals will be collected on 9/28 and they will be worth 30 points.  Today students will fill out a graphic organizer on the five themes of Geography that are found on pages H24-H25.  We will also look at Greek root words on page 226. No Hw
Tueday 9/11/12  We will finish the flow graphic organizer on the 5 themes of Geography.  Next we will begin working on Assignment #2 CH 25 Reading Notes.  The class will have an exit question this Thursday.  Students should know that their learing goal in History is to know their Standards.
Wednesday9/12/12-  Students will practice getting on the textbook online and we will finish work on ch 25 reading notes.  Exit Question tomorrow
Thursday 9/13/12  Students will continue to work on reading notes 25.  Students should be able to answer Geography Standard G5.  Students will take an exit question worth 10 points.  The question is " What is your learning goal or objective in history this year ?
Friday 9/14/12  The class will finish reading notes 25.  We will discuss the proper form for writting an essay.  The class will begin work on assignment #3 chaper 25 assessment
Monday- 9/17/12  Students will review how to write an essay.  Students will complete assessment 25.  Students will exchange papers and peer grade their essay and hand the essay back tot he owner.  Students will have an oppertunity to correct their essay's. 
Tuesday 9/18/12  The class will open their textbook tp pages 242.  The class was instructed on how to read the multi-tier time line that is found at the beginning of every chapter.  We also looked at Greek root words and how they are used to form words in our language, example ge at the beginning of a work means earth, and ology at the end means the study of therefor Geology is the study of the earth.  ** We have a quiz Thursday over sec1 chapter 8 pages 224-232.  Students should review assignment 2,3,4 and the Diagram on Mycenaens and Mianoas. 
Wednesday 9/19/12  The class finished a Vocabulary Builder from sec. 1 on Ancient Greece pg 224-232.  Five questions from the vocabulary builder are on the quiz tommorow.  After we finished the vocabulary builder students filled out a Venn Diagram on the Minoans and the Mycenaens.  Review assignments 2,3,4 and the Venn Diagram for the quiz.
Thursday 9/20/12  Students took ch 8 sec 1 quiz.  Five questions targeted the standard G5.  Students who did not meet their learning goals will be able to retake the quiz.
Friday 9/21/12-  NO SCHOOL
 
Monday- 9/24/12-  Journals are due 9/28.  The journals will begin on 9/10.  Students will be given a WS on Greek Colonization.  Students will work in groups to complete the worksheet.
 
Tuesday 9/25/12- Students will put up the worksheet Greek Colonization on the board.  This lesson should teach students that Greeks Colonized the Mediterranean World.  Students will start assignment number 8.  The Class will begin working on how to write an essay by answering three questions about the Greeks.
 
Wednesday. 9/26-  Journal are due 9/28 Friday  9/10- to 9/28 students should have 14 entries.  The class will complete the essay on page 230.  I will call 4 different students to type in one sentence of the essay each in a different color.  The different parts of the essay will stand out.  We will go over the EQ question Why did the Greeks establish colonies?  We will look back to our reading Notes 25.4 question one to find the answer.  Next we will begin learing about the Trojan War.  Students should know that the Iliad was written by Homer.
 
Thursday 9/27 Journals will be collected tomorrow.  Students should have enties for 9/10 - 9/28.  Students will have the following exit question tomorrow, Why did the Greeks establish colonies?  The Greeks esbalished colonies because they had a shoetage of farmland and food.  The class spent most of the period learning about the Trojan War.  Point of emphasis is that The Trojan War is a Greek Tragedy.  The main heroes die in the Trojan War!
 
Friday 9/28/12  Students watched a film clip on the Trojan War.  The class made a list of three ways in which people products, and ideas were spread to different areas.  There will be a quiz over the Trojan War on Tuesday.
 
Monday 10/1  -  Students continued to watch the film on the Trojan War. 
 
Tuesday 10/2  Students finished the Trojan War.  Students learned that a Trojan prince by the name Aeneas escaped from Troy and was the started the city of Rome in Italy.  Quiz over the Trojan War tomorrow at the end of the period.
 
Wednesday 10/3  The class review the information on the Trojan War worksheet.  Next the class took a 14 question 56 point quiz.  Any student who does not reach their learning goal will retake the quiz.
 
Thursday 10/4 Students will learn the different forms of government used in Athens Greece.  Students will recieve a new standard to lear. GV2 Describe the essential characteristics of the systems of government found in Greek City-States.
 
Friday 10/5  Students worked on their reading notes from chapter 26.  Students should know what an Oligarchy is, a government where a few rich people ran the country.
 
Monday 10/8  Students worked on their reading notes and finished the section on Tyrants.  Students shouls know that a Tyrant is a person who obtains power over the government illegally.  One strenght of Tyranny is that the power can be used for the good of the country.  One negative of Tyranny is that the power is used for the good of theTyrant and not the country.  Students should know that Hippias was the last Tyrant of Athens.
 
Tuesday 10/9  Students worked on Democracy in their readding note.  Democracy is a form of government where the power is in the hands of its citizens.  One strenght of a Democracy is that citizens have a voice in the government.  One weakness of a Democracy is that decisions take a long time.
 
Wednesday 10/10  Students reviewed their standart GV2.  All students will be able to define the four forms of governmnet that developed in Anicnt Greece.  After finishing reading notes 26 the class will begin working on developing 4 pictographs on the four types of Greek governments.  Exit question tomorrow students will have to pick one of the governments from Ancient Greece and define the government and give one strenght and one weakness of the government.
 
Thursday 10/11  Today the class watched a short film on Christopher Columbus.  Students should know the following facts.
1. Columbus sighted land Oct. 12 1492
2. Columbus sailed for the country of Spain
3. Columbus landed in the Bahamas
4. North and South America are named after Amerigo Vespucci
 
Monday 10/15  The class worked on a technique called chunking.  Each table was giving a subheading from the textbook sec 2 chapter 8.  At their table the groupn was to identify 2 important facts from the ection and type them in the computer for the rest of the class to copy.  At the  end of the period I called upon each table to answer a question from the assessment review at the end of section 2 using only the information they found from chunking.  # We wull have a quiz over section two chapter 8 on Wednesday.  Folders are due 10/19 Friday they should have entries from 10/1 to 10/19 14 in all.
 
Tuesday 10/16  The class will take a look at what a primary source is comaring them to secondary sources.  Example if I watched a car accident I am a primary source, if a friend tells me about a car accident and I tell someone else I am a seconday source.  The class will also fill out a Venn Diagram comparing a direct democracy to a representative democracy.  The class will use the information from the Venn Diagram to write a 5 sentence essay comparing a direct democracy to a representatoive democracy.
 
Wednesday 10/17  Students took the quiz over chapter 8 section 2 quiz.  Folders are due Friday. Entries begin with 10/1- 10/19
 
Thursday 10/18  Students recieved a handout of notes over Greek Mythology.  Students will watch a film over Greek Mythology and take notes over the Greek Gods.
 
Friday 10/19 Students will finish watching the film over Greek Mythology and will take notes over 17 Greek Gods.   Students turned in their Journals.
 
Monday 10/22  We will go over the standard questions from ch 8 sec 2 quiz and go over the proper responces.  Next the class will chunch information on to flash card of the 6 children of Cronus.  Students will recieve Ancient Greece sec 3 Vocabulary Builder.
 
Tuesday 10/23  Students will create 6 more flash cards over Greek Gods.  Next students will write the correct answers to the vocabulary builder on the board.  We will end the class with a film clip on Hades.  Exit question on Thursday
 
Wednesday  10/24  Students went over the vocabulary builder from sec3 chapter 8.  Students should know that Aseop was a great writer of Greek Fables. Saphos was a great Lyric Poet.  The class also made 6 new flash cards for the Greek Gods.
 
Thursday 1025  Students reviewed their 12 flash cards by quizzing each other in small groups.  Next the class learned about Madusa.  They should know that Madusa was a priestess to the Goddess Athena and was turned into a creature who turned people to stone who looked at her.  The class took an exit question at the end of the period over the 6 children of Cronus.
 
Friday 10/26  Students worked on a Midas worksheet.  Students should know that Midas got his golden toch from Dionysous.  Students also reviewed their Gods and Goddess flashcards.
 
Monday 1029  Students went over the worksheet on Midas.  Students completed 5 new flashcards and reviewed them.  Next students heard the story of Prometheus and Pandora.  Students began answering 9 questions that relate to the story.  Students were told they will have a quiz on Thursday over sec3 Ancient Greece.
 
Tuesday 10/30  No School
 
Wednesday 10/31  Students learned about the history of Halloween.  Students should have learned that Holloween came to us from the Irish/Celts.  We also worked on a handout over Prometheus and Pandora.  The quiz over sec 3 will be moved back to either Monday or Tuesday of next week.
 
Thursday 11/1  The class finished the story on Pandora aand the class reviewed using their flash cards
 
Friday   11/2   Their will be a quiz over sec3 chapter 8 on Tuesday.  Students should review their Gods flash cards and look over sec 3 vocabularty builder.  The class listened to a fable by Aesop called " The Milk Maid and her pail".  Next we got a summary paper and used it to take notes on a film about Hercules.
 
Monday 11/5 The class played a review game called Gods Bingo
 
Tuesday 11/6 The class took a look at the Electorial College and how it works.  Next the class took a quiz over sec 3 Ancient Greece
 
Wednesday 11/7  The class saw a post election map and I showed them how the election played out.  Students should know that a canadite needs 270 electorial votes to become our next president.  Next the class graphed their sec 3 quiz score.  Students were informed that the quiz would be thei last grade for the third nine weeks.
 
Thursday 11/8  The class played a review game called " Show me what you know"  A box is place by the podium and each student picks a question from the box and attempts to answer the question.  Next the class was split into two groups where they play a quiz bowl game.  Test is tomorrow for 4th, 5th and 6th periods.  Period 1, 2,3 will take the test on Monday.
 
Friday  11/9  Periods 1,2,3 played around of show me what you know and the quiz bowl review game.  Most of the students did not have my class due to a band and choir concert.  Periods 4,5,6 took the test over Ancient Greece and turned in their journals to be scored.
